Since 2015, Château Lafite Rothschild has included RFID tags on the bottle caps of its premium wines, allowing consumers to verify authenticity and access production information, effectively protecting the brand. Penfolds embeds RFID tags within labels to help manage its large product inventory, tracking each bottle’s storage location and condition in real-time. Consumers can scan tags to access vintage, grape variety, and storage recommendations.


In the wave of digitization, RFID offers numerous possibilities for innovation in the wine industry. From anti-counterfeiting and traceability to inventory management, RFID labels add informational value and interactivity to label design. As RFID costs decrease and technology matures, more wine brands are expected to adopt it to enhance brand image, optimize supply chain management, and provide personalized consumer experiences.
